I saw them walking on the road. I could tell the 2 young ladies were tired, so I stopped and asked them if they’d like a ride in the truck. (It’s so common here, and I remember many times when others gave us a lift before we had a vehicle). They both smiled big and gladly accepted my offer, not having to walk all those miles to get to Puyo. As I started driving, I introduced myself and began chatting with them. (All who know me, know that Yes, I’m going to tell them about Jesus!! He’s been so good to me, how can I keep quiet!?!)
As we talked, I could tell that one had only a little knowledge of the Word, and the other knew absolutely nothing about it. I talked of the love of God and the great salvation that He offers us all, and they listened so intently. One sat directly behind me, so I could see her in my rearview mirror. She was the youngest. I could see her face as I shared each word. Then the other said something about being in the last days. And the one behind me said, “What does that mean?” I told her it meant that time is running out, and the world is coming to an end. Life as we know it will not longer be. As I explained it in a way that a child could understand, I saw her mouth drop wide open! He face said it all, She had NEVER heard! She gasped, and looked around in amazement, astonished at what she heard. Shock and bewilderment took over her as she looked at her friend with the same jaw dropped expression and gasp! I told her that we must prepare to meet Jesus, because when this world is no more, those who have loved and obeyed Him will go to a beautiful place that He has prepared for us. I could see the hunger in her eyes, the desire to know more, and I quickly shared with her that we all have the chance to be saved and to be with Jesus someday, and told her of His great salvation.
As we reached the destination, her mind had been blown away by what she had just heard and the seed had been planted, I invited them to come to the church in Puyo (which was only a short distance away) and I gave them tracts to take home and my phone number.
As I drove off, I wept. For I remember praying for Ecuador years ago when I was first called of the Lord, and literally saying in those prayers, “Lord, please tell them that I’m coming to bring them your message of love and salvation.” And Jesus has done His part, now I must continue doing mine. I must tell them, for there are still so many who don’t know. I wanted to remind you of that today, just in case you didn’t realize that not everyone has heard the precious name of Jesus. Not everyone has a church in their neighborhood or a Bible in their home. They are still waiting. Who will go? “Here am I , Lord, send me”. Pray for a Missionary today!
