This is what missionary work, for me, is all about. Beautiful Monica, in this photo, is not just weeping in the presence of the Lord, as in a regular service. It’s so much more than that! Her story is so much more powerful!!!! A few months ago, Monica was losing her hearing. It’s been happening over a period of time. Her parents, however, did not reveal this to me, until she had lost complete hearing in one ear and was about 50% gone in the other. They told me one afternoon that they were taking her to a hospital in Quito (which is nearly 6 1/2 hours away), for a specialist to see her, and maybe they could offer some type of help. You see, to have such a disability here would make life for Monica so very challenging. I know it would be a challenge for anyone, anywhere. But in the area we live in, there are no deaf schools, there are no sign language teachers or interpreters. She would just be pushed to the side and ignored and no one would ever understand her or be able to communicate with her and she, as well, would never know what was going on around her. It absolutely broke my heart to know that she might be deaf, and very soon.
So I told the parents to bring her to the church that night, so we could anoint her and pray for her, before they left for their trip to the capitol city. And that is just what they did. Just us and Monica and her family there. We anointed her with oil and began to pray over her and worship Jesus! OH, how His presence filled the house that day! It was beautiful!
They left for Quito, and this is the report the mom told me when they returned. She said, “Monica told us as we were in the bus, almost there, She said, ‘Mom, I don’t need to go to this doctor.’ Her mom asked why. Monica said, ‘Because Jesus has healed me.’ ” Then Monica began to tell her all!!! Hallelujah! Monica said, “Mom, when we got to the church last night, I couldn’t hear, I didn’t understand what y’all were saying and talking about. But when they laid their hands on me and prayed for me, I felt something happening! My ears opened up (unstopped) as we were praying, and I could hear everything they were saying! So, I know what the doctor is going to say, there is nothing wrong! Jesus healed me!”
And yes, folks, that’s exactly what the doctor said, “I don’t know why y’all are here, because there is nothing wrong with this child’s hearing!!”
Only JESUS can do such things!!! Praise the Lord! That is Monica’s biggest reason to praise Him and love Him now! She can’t forget what Jesus has done for her! She is a beautiful little girl and after such a great miracle and testimony, I know the Lord has even greater things in store for her life!
