Doing home visits (Bible studies, food delivery, praying for people, etc.) looks different on my Mission field here in the jungle of Ecuador, than maybe it does in the United States. But even after being here nearly 20 years, it is still my favorite part of Mission work. Oh how I love wading rivers and traipsing through mud just to get to tell someone about Jesus!
And then to hear the testimonies afterwards, of what that visit really meant to them, is the greatest reward. When I showed up to this sweet lady’s house in a surprise visit, she heard my laughter on the trail and knew it was me coming. She was so happy to come out and greet me, but then I showed her what I had in my hand and said, “I’ve brought a bag of rice for you today, to bless you”, well, she just couldn’t believe what God had done!!![]()
Because what I didn’t know was that she was just like the widow woman, that Elijah was sent to, who had only a handful of meal and a little oil left. She, too, only had a cup of rice left, and knew that wouldn’t last but only the night. And now, God had sent me to her front door with a whole 20lb. bag of rice! He had shown her just how faithful He is!
This is why I love serving Jesus and I’ll gladly trek high hills, wade rivers, and walk muddy trails, on this Mission field just to tell them how wonderful He truly is!!
